The National Business Continuity Management (BCM) Programme was announced in November 2008 and became effective on 1 December 2008. This $30 million initiative over five years aims to engage the private sector in building economic resillience and competitiveness through the attainment of BCM certification (Based on Singapore Standard SS540:2008 or equivalent).
The government will be providing financial incentives to defray the cost of BCM-adoption to encourage more companies or SMEs to be BCM-ready. A BCM-ready private sector will help enhance SIngapore's reputation as a Trusted Hub for reliable and quality service.
Singapore Business Federation (SBF) has been appointed as the BCM Focal Point for businesses in this national initiative. In this capacity, SBF seeks to:
- Raise the awareness of the importance of BCM to businesses
- Widen BCM standard implementation by the business community
- Make BCM more accessible to the business community
- Support our enterprises' efforts to become BCM certified
SBF will work closely with their members from the trade associations and chambers as well as SPRING and other industry partners to help more Singapore-based companies and SMEs to be better informed about BCM, leading to BCM readiness and SS540 certification.
SBF strongly supports enterprises' efforts to become BCM certified, advise them on BCM adoption and help SMEs in particular, in the processing of their incentive applications. SBF is organising a series of events and workshop to encourage and enable more Singapore-based companies and SMEs to augment the robustness of their operation through BCM adoption.
In additional, following the Influenza A H1N1 outbreak in April 2009, many enterprises now see flu pandemic as a threat to business continuity. The Flu Pandemic Business Continuity Programme (FPBCP) is to help businesses prepare to deal with the flu pandemic situation. It is also a stepping stone to encourage businesses to move towards full adoption of Business Continuity Management (BCM).

I think SBF has done a great job. SBF has explained and answered my initial doubts about BCM.
As this project will cost Insiro quite some money, I really want to make sure that BCM is going to be of VALUE to my small business. The visits and clear explanation gave me the confidence that I am making the right decision.
Notwithstanding the above, I think all communications with SBF's personnel has been very professional and they are all very patience and helpful. Thanks.

My dealings with SBF have always been pleasant. Working on the BCM program, I had to contact SBF on several occasions for info on the grant application. Eady was proactive in providing that info, especially in the initial stages of the application process. Subsequent inputs were firm, clear and concise.
There was once I contacted Eady on his mobile when he was on medical leave, but he was still patient and forthcoming in answering my queries.
On a separate occasion I called Eady when he was out of office, Freda was pleasingly polite and was also able to give equal quality advice.
Overall impression of the team is that it is professional and displays sound understanding of the subject matter, which translates into reassurance for customers. Coupled with the positive attitude, the end result was a delightful experience.
Thanks and keep up the good effort!
